The Royal Melbourne Hospital

As one of the largest health services in Victoria, and a team of more than 10,000 strong, we provide a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services; as well as rehabilitation, aged care, outpatient and community programs. We are a designated state-wide provider for services including trauma, and we lead centres of excellence for tertiary services in several key specialties including neurosciences, nephrology, oncology, cardiology and virtual health.

Your new team

  • The Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) is a leading Australian infectious diseases reference laboratory located in Melbourne, Victoria.

  • VIDRL is now part of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (the Doherty). The Doherty is a joint venture between Melbourne Health and the University of Melbourne.

  • VIDRL provides the Victorian Department of Health with virology and Mycobacteria public health reference laboratory services, including surveillance, outbreak investigations, reference testing and research. VIDRL also performs diagnostic testing, mainly in virology, for Victorian hospitals.

VIDRL has been at the forefront of the COVID 19 pandemic response, providing both testing capability and capacity for the community, SARS CoV 2 testing for Victoria’s Hotel Quarantine system as well as clinical research and public health initiatives.

The IT support Officer will work as part of VIDRL Information Systems team to provide support to VIDRL’s ongoing response to Victoria’s Public Health response to the COVID 19 pandemic. In particular this role will be liaising with the laboratory manager, laboratory staff and key stakeholders to help manage COVID reporting and COVID related IT projects.

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Support IT project activities as directed

  • Work well within a team environment

  • Communicate effectively (written and verbal communication)

  • Be available to be a part of an out of hours on call roster

Your Contribution:

  • You have effective time management skills

  • Previous experience with supporting new IT projects

  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team

  • You are proactive and energetic
