Position Summary

Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) is the major provider of specialist health services in the Gippsland region, east of Melbourne. Our comprehensive range of services extends to emergency and intensive care, elective surgery, allied health, obstetrics, medical and radiation oncology at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, dialysis and aged care.

LRH has a number of outstanding facilities following a recent expansion. These include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, large Emergency Department, endoscopy suites and modern and contemporary inpatient units. These complement extensive Allied Health amenities including a gym and pool. LRH is the regional provider of mental health services in Gippsland. LRH Mental Health Service operates an integrated specialist mental health program across the region and provides inpatient and community mental health care for adults, children and young people and older persons. Gippsland provides a fantastic regional lifestyle with easy access to Melbourne.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Pharmacist to join the Gippsland Region Public Health Unit (GRPHU) team at Latrobe Regional Hospital on a Fixed Term basis. Various EFT Opportunities available.

Reporting to the Operations Manager (GRPHU) the successful applicant will play an important role in our response to COVID-19 and the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines.

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Have a proficient knowledge of clinical processes and health care systems
  • Be able to use technology to document and report administration of vaccine
  • Understand cold-chain requirements of the COVID-19 Vaccine
  • Provide supervision to pharmacy technicians and other staff tasked with preparing the vaccines for administration
  • Assist in reporting functions as required for vaccine management
To be successful in this position you will need to have:
  • Effective communication: with ability to explain COVID-19 vaccination information in a way that is understood by diverse audiences. Deals well with difficult and sensitive topics and questions
  • High Level Decision Making: A high level ability to make decisions, sometimes with incomplete information, in a rapid time frame where required
  • Ability to problem solve, negotiate and resolve conflict
This position can also include the abilty to maintain broader clinical skills by undertaking rotations through hospital pharmacy at Latrobe Regional Hospital.

Selection Criteria Essential: Understanding of statutory requirements relevant to area of responsibility
Essential: Ability to instruct and provide feedback to students, pharmacy interns, pharmacy technicians
Essential: A Bachelor of pharmacy or equivalent degree with current registration as a pharmacist with AHPRA.
Desirable: Hospital pharmacy experience.
Desirable: Please indicate your preferred EFT and/or hours & days of work?
Desirable: Have you already received or are you willing to receive the COVID vaccine?
Desirable: Completed training about the COVID-19 Vaccine or Vaccination process. If yes, describe what training completed to date or what resources you have accessed?
Desirable: Ability to work at other sites in Gippsland? e.g. Wellington Shire or Bass Coast Shire
