About Department

Berengarra, a new multi storey 90 bed state of the art residential aged care facility comprises 60 mainstream and 30 Aged Persons' Mental Health (APMH) beds designed to deliver contemporary best practice person centred care. Berengarra compliments a suite of existing St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne's residential facilities.

Berengarra is due to welcome the first residents in March, with a planned staggered opening throughout 2021 until the facility is at capacity.

About the Role

We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, experienced professional looking to join and develop our Central Kitchen facility. You will be responsible for the daily operation of the Central Kitchen facility, in line with our site Food Safety Plan. Your key responsibilities will include the preparation of food and beverages for our residents, responding to requests for short order meals, delivery of food to the kitchens of each level and the overall ordering and maintenance of the Central Receiving Kitchen, all whilst maintaining food safety and OH&S compliance. Part time positions available, minimum 21 hours per week.

Classification for this position is GR2 ($49,431 per annum pro rata)


  • Deliver the highest standard of patient food services and ensure competency certification of all tasks undertaken
  • Preparation of all meals including short order or regenerated meals for residents and functions as per documented production schedule, including preparation of sandwiches/salads, cut up and soft food options, snacks, beverages/thickened fluids as requested
  • Demonstrate compliance with task allocation and timelines (including receiving, sorting and distributing meals from the SVHM Production Kitchen), OH&S and Food Safety standards
  • Observe and follow correct food handling policies and procedures as documented in the Food Safety Program
  • Work area is kept clean as per Food Safety standards, kitchen hygiene and cleanliness standards are adhered too, including thorough kitchen cleaning and sanitizing
  • Complete all relevant monitoring documentation in regards to food safety
  • Ensure best practice to all duties related to the role will be carried out in an expert manner

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Current Food Handlers Certificate HLTFSE - 001
  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen ( preferably a hospital or aged care setting)
  • Demonstrated understanding of food safety standards and OH&S practices
  • Demonstrated ability to complete Food Safety Documentation
