St Vincent’s is contracted by leading service providers MTC Broadspectrum to deliver health services to Parklea Correctional Centre - a major Sydney prison with capacity for 1,816 male inmates.

The provision of healthcare is a vital part of an inmate’s life. We’ve established St Vincent’s Correctional Health Services because of the unique difference corrective health professionals can make.

In 1838, when the Sisters of Charity who founded St Vincent’s arrived in Sydney from Ireland, they immediately went to the Parramatta Female Factory, where they made an important difference to the lives of hundreds of women convicts there. Similarly today, St Vincent’s Correctional Health aims to make a major difference by providing multidisciplinary healthcare to inmates at Parklea Correctional Complex.

Position Summary

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Clinical Nurse Consultant with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care.

The Clinical Practice Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) will work in collaboration with the SVCH Nurse Manager, Nursing Unit Managers, allied and medical staff and the SVCH Clinical Nurse Educator to ensure the provision of an evidence based approach to professional nursing practice and the delivery of a person centred nursing service at Parklea Correctional Centre.

The CNC contributes to the development and delivery of specialty related education programs, practice audit and practice change to ensure nursing care is aligned to the NSQHS Standards. The CNC will contribute to the development of an Inclusive Health Program project application that aims to build nursing workforce culture and capability in trauma informed physical, mental and social health care for patients in the justice health system.

Applicant will be required to obtain a Corrective Service Clearance NSW to be able to take up this role.

Selection Criteria
  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  • Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with at least 7 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 5 years full time equivalent experience in a specialty field and, in addition, post registration nursing qualifications, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney.
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills and the ability to effectively engage, motivate and organise staff to achieve organisational and program outcomes.
  • Demonstrated high level written, verbal and interpersonal skills with highly developed organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and delivering organisational change while meeting the needs of all levels of the organisation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical governance, policy & procedure development, clinical audit and demonstrated experience in leading quality improvement or research initiatives.
  • Demonstrated high level computer literacy and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
