Trainee Paediatrics Nepean Hospital

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time (13 September 2021 to 6 February 2022)
Hours Per Week: 38
Requisition ID: CAM11138

What you'll be doing

The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of paediatric medical patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in paediatric practice, in a complex clinical environment. The medical officer is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.

It is expected that the doctor has been exposed to all aspects of general paediatric medicine and is able to competently assess children presenting to the Emergency Department and make appropriate provisional diagnoses and management plans. The doctor is also expected to be proficient at both neonatal and paediatric resuscitation. The doctor will be exposed to a broad range of developmental and behavioural problems and they are expected to undertake the assessments as part of the multidisciplinary teams and independently where required. The doctor will be expected to assess children at risk and complete a PANOC assessment when required.

Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the medical officer’s skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health district are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
Where you'll be working

Nepean Hospital is a major tertiary referral hospital for NBMLHD and, beyond that, provides high-level inpatient and outpatient services for people of all ages. The NSW government has committed to delivering Stage Two with an enhanced 4 pod Intensive Care Service, Multimodal Medical Imaging and further expansion of inpatient acute beds with integrated care services, all due for completion in 2024.

NBMLHD has well-established national and international research programs with a strong commitment to research and teaching activities that contribute to improved patient outcomes.
