About the role

Job Title: Speech Pathologist

Reports To: Team Leader

Position Objective

The speech pathologist is responsible for implementing standards of care for speech pathology services and builds from extensive resources to plan and direct services to meet the needs of individuals and families within their aged care facilities, their homes, and their communities.

Job Duties/Knowledge (Essential)

  • Play an essential part in helping our customers live their best lives and feel better about themselves by providing therapy to maximise speech, language, cognitive and swallowing abilities.
  • Conduct appropriate evaluations, assesses home environment (as applicable), and identify equipment needs relative to speech function.
  • Identify functional speech, language, and swallowing goals to establishes a plan of care for customers.
  • Administer speech program utilising specialised therapeutic technique and equipment.
  • Recommend communication devices/aids as indicated.
  • Confers with the team leader and other facility personnel to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care contributes to the total plan of care.
  • As appropriate, participate in case conferences, in-services and other meetings required ensuring coordinated and thorough care.
  • Prepare and submit care reports as per policy with respect and development from a supervisor, where needed.
  • Maintain clinical competency in speech pathology practice and theory.
  • Identify patient/family/caregiver needs for other services and refers as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as required to facilitate the delivery of speech pathology services.

Qualifications

  • Possesses a Bachelor or Masters of Speech Pathology.
  • Meet the education and experience requirements granted by Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication and organisation skills.

Travel - This is a travelling position. Must maintain a valid driver's license and sound vehicle.
