Salary: Non-Graduate: $54,359.00 - $80,100.00 / Graduate: $62,653.00 – $102,105.00 p.a. (pro-rata)

Position Summary

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Permanent, Part time Community Mental Health Peer Workerwith appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care.

Mental Health Peer Workers use their personal journey to support consumers by providing individual consultations, education and group interventions aimed at facilitating recovery principles of hope, choice, self-determination and social connectedness.

The Community Mental Health Peer Worker works alongside clinicians and is an integral part of the clinical team, contributing to care-planning and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best outcome for the consumer.

The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only.

Selection Criteria
  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
  • Solid secondary level education qualifications or able to demonstrate levels of numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Completion of the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to complete same
  • Lived experience of secondary mental health services and able to reflect on personal experience of recovery.
  • Good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills e.g. ability to communicate their personal experience of recovery
  • Understanding of the issues and concerns of mental health service users and demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Experience supporting people with a mental illness within a personal recovery context
  • Experience of working in a team environment and understanding the dynamics of same
