Eligibility

To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health applicants must be an

Division Responsibilities

The Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (CNMO) provides high level advice to Government,

the Executive, and the staff of the Department of Health on a range of nursing, midwifery,

health and aged care systems, workforce and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide quality advice on complex clinical and infection prevention and control
matters in health and aged care and particularly relating to quarantine and

quarantine facilities.

  • Undertake assessment and/or audit on health, wellbeing and safety standards in
accordance with Commonwealth Government led contracts and arrangements.

  • Use strong written and verbal communication skills to provide evidence based
advice, manage the timely provision of high quality reports and input into complex

information requests.

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex and/or sensitive issues,
including gathering and analysing information in relation to health, aged care and

quarantine.

  • Working with a small, high profile team, identify priorities related to the Chief
Nursing and Midwifery Officer.

Key Capabilities

  • Sound understanding of clinical governance and clinical practice protocols including
infection prevention and control measures.

  • Communicate with influence in a clear, concise and articulate manner, especially
when dealing with complex clinical or health related matters.

  • Proven history of risk identification and management.
  • Exercise a high level of autonomy, be able to work flexibly and with attention to
detail.

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain
productive relationships with state and territories and health sector stakeholders.

  • Provide advice for, and participate in, the formulation and implementation of policy
and strategic direction in relation to health and aged care services.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in audit and/or government assessments.
