The opportunity 

A rare opportunity is on offer for an experienced, authentic and Palliative astute leader to join an established team and continue the delivery of evidence based Best Care in WA. As the Medical Director of Palliative Care, WA, you will work in partnership with the Director Clinical Operations Palliative Care WA, providing medical leadership and expertise to support palliative care operations across the service in WA.


For this Medical Director role, you will be an inquisitive, collaborative and a supportive leader. You will provide strategic direction and sound management across Palliative WA services to ensure safe and effective health service delivery, coupled with the unique opportunity to develop and shape the strategic initiatives and fine-tune business development. The Medical Director actively contributes to the Health WA Leadership Team and plays an integral role in the successful implementation of the Silver Chain strategy. You will assist the National Medical Director WA to continuously scan, monitor and respond to medical workforce planning and development needs, to ensure ongoing maintenance and enhancement of workforce capacity and capability to meet the Palliative Care Division’s current and future needs.


A key requirement will be working closely with other members of the leadership team to foster a culture which values data driven decision making, continuing professional development, and empowering our wider team to achieve excellence in the delivery of care which is personal, effective, connected and safe for clients, carers and families. 


About you 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in the medical profession with demonstrated experience in field of expertise.
  • Relevant post graduate specialist qualification, i.e. preferably FRACP and/or Fellowship of equivalent college combined with Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, support, manage, coach and mentor an effective clinical team
  • A medical resource by ensuring effective medical governance and clarity of focus on clinical quality and safety in the delivery of sustainable Palliative Care
  • Confident working within legislation and contractual framework and agreements
  • Proven capacity to collaboratively work with the leadership team to influence and negotiate solutions in high level complex political environments, such as state and national health departments, medical bodies (AMA, GP Divisions/Networks) and executive levels of government
  • Familiarity with state and commonwealth health and human services programs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement business plans and strategies in a complex operational environment to support business growth opportunities
