Position Summary:

Nursing Unit Manager Level 2 is differentiated from a Nursing Unit Manager Level 1 through having overall responsibility for budget and human resource management of a particular service/unit/department. The Nursing Unit Manager Level 2 maintains a patient flow and patient care focus but is not counted in the unit/departments Nursing Hours per Patient Day. The Nursing Unit Manager Level 2 is typically the manager of a ward.

The Hospital in the Home (HITH) service is comprised of a team of registered nurses, a nurse practitioner, a physiotherapist, an advanced trainee registrar and a medical consultant. HITH patients are admitted patients and care is delivered using a hospital bed substitution model of care, across a 7 day service. Care is delivered in the patient’s home, hospital clinic setting, or in the patient’s workplace. Delivery of care is generally high intensity and short term in nature. The HITH service’s primary objective is to optimise patient outcomes, thereby reducing hospital length of stay and/or avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions and emergency presentations.

The Post-Acute Care (PAC) Service aims to facilitate safe and timely discharge from hospital to provide ongoing short term step down care in a community or clinic based setting. The Nurse Unit Manager will also be responsible for managing the Out of Hospital Care program ComPacks.

Selection Criteria

1)Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia. 

2)Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency 

3)Recognised post graduate tertiary qualification in a clinical speciality or management (or willingness to undertake same within 12 months) or equivalent relevant experience 

4)Demonstrated operational, financial, human resource, workplace health and safety and effective communication / interpersonal skills experience at departmental level 

5)Comprehensive understanding of clinical governance and current nursing issues 

6)Ability to deliver, evidenced based, patient centred care within a complex environment 

7) Demonstrated experience in quality improvement principles, clinical policy and procedure development and implementation Computer literacy in MS Word/Excel, Email and an electronic medical record / referral system

8)Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice
